In general, however, asynchronous requests should be preferred to synchronous requests for performance reasons. Synchronous requests block the execution of code which causes “freezing” on the screen and an unresponsive user experience.
The XMLHttpRequest method send() sends the request to the server. If the request is asynchronous (which is the default), this method returns as soon as the request is sent and the result is delivered using events. If the request is synchronous, this method doesn’t return until the response has arrived.
Cross-Origin XMLHttpRequest. Regular web pages can use the XMLHttpRequest object to send and receive data from remote servers, but they’re limited by the same origin policy (and since Chrome 73 content scripts are also subject to the same restrictions as the web page they are injected into). Extensions aren’t so limited – a script executing in
node-XMLHttpRequest. node-XMLHttpRequest is a wrapper for the built-in http client to emulate the browser XMLHttpRequest object. This can be used with JS designed for browsers to improve reuse of code and allow the use of existing libraries.
